# Label Generation Success, Deutsche Post

> Label Generation Success for Deutsche Post stores. Tracked live in Vortex IQ Nerve Centre. How to read it, why it matters, and how to act on it.

**Metrics type:** [Supporting Metrics](/nerve-centre/overview#metrics-types-explained) • **Category:** [Operational Health](/nerve-centre/connectors#connectors-by-type)

## At a glance

> Share of shipping-label requests to the DHL Paket label API that returned a printable label in the last 24 hours, rather than an error. This is the despatch-floor health dial: when label generation drops, parcels cannot leave the warehouse, the dispatch backlog builds, and every downstream delivery metric inherits the delay. A reading below the 98 percent alert floor almost always points to one of three causes: malformed address data being rejected, a credential or contract problem on the DHL business account, or a DHL platform incident.

| **What it tracks** | Label Generation Success over the last 24 hours, grounded in `detail`: Label Generation Success for the selected period. |
| **Data source** | Outcome of DHL Parcel DE Shipping API `POST /parcel/de/shipping/v2/orders` (label creation). The card counts a request as a success when DHL returns a label PDF plus a `shipmentNumber`, and as a failure on any 4xx validation error or 5xx platform error. |
| **Time window** | `24H` (last 24 hours). A short window so a print-floor incident surfaces inside one shift, not next week. |
| **Alert trigger** | `<98%`. Healthy despatch runs 99.5 to 100 percent; sustained sub-98 percent means a recurring, addressable cause, not random noise. |
| **Roles** | owner, operations |

## What it tracks

Every order needs a label before it can be picked, packed, and handed to DHL. This card measures whether that first step is succeeding. A 4xx validation failure is usually a data problem the merchant can fix: an incomplete recipient address, a missing house number (a common rejection on the German address format), a weight or dimension outside the booked product's limits, or a CN23 customs field missing on an EU cross-border parcel. A 5xx is a DHL-side platform error and is correlated with [API Error Rate](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/deutsche-post/api-error-rate). Because the window is only 24 hours, a single sustained incident moves the dial fast: 40 failed labels in an hour on a 2,000-label day reads as roughly 98 percent and trips the alert. Pair with [Days to Token Expiry](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/deutsche-post/days-to-token-expiry), because an expired OAuth credential presents as a wall of label failures rather than a tracking gap.

## Reconciling against the source

Reconcile against the **DHL Geschäftskundenportal** (Business Customer Portal) shipment-creation logs, or your own integration logs for the label endpoint, over the same 24-hour window. Note that the card counts a label **request** outcome at the moment of the API call, so its timestamps are in UTC while the portal records shipment creation in **carrier-local time (CET / CEST)**; a window straddling midnight CET can show a small count difference. Retries also matter: if your despatch tool auto-retries a failed label and the retry succeeds, the portal shows one created shipment while the card may have logged the first attempt as a failure.
