# Etsy Ads Revenue vs Organic, Etsy

> Etsy Ads Revenue vs Organic for Etsy stores. Tracked live in Vortex IQ Nerve Centre. How to read it, why it matters, and how to act on it.

**Card class:** [Hero](/nerve-centre/overview#card-classes-explained) • **Category:** [Marketplace](/nerve-centre/connectors#connectors-by-type)

## At a glance

> **Etsy Ads Revenue vs Organic** splits the revenue your shop earned through Etsy Ads (paid placements) against the revenue that came from natural Etsy search and browse (organic). A healthy handmade or vintage shop usually wants organic to carry the larger share over time, because organic sales cost no ad spend. A high and rising Ads share is a signal to invest in listing SEO, tags and photos so that search starts doing the work your budget is currently doing.

| --------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **What it counts** | The currency value of orders attributed to Etsy Ads versus orders attributed to organic Etsy search and browse, shown as a paid/organic split. |
| **Sample type** | Backend API data from Etsy Ads reporting and order attribution, refreshed on the standard data refresh. |
| **Why it matters** | Tells you how dependent your revenue is on paid placement. A growing Ads share with flat total revenue means you are buying sales you used to win for free. |
| **Reading the value** | Read the organic slice as your earned baseline and the Ads slice as bought demand. Track the ratio over the 30-day window rather than a single day. |
| **Currency** | currency |

| **Alert trigger** | `-` |

## Calculation

Calculated automatically from your Etsy data. Etsy attributes each order to either an Etsy Ads click or organic search/browse. Vortex IQ sums the order revenue in each bucket over the selected window and reports the paid-versus-organic split as a donut, alongside the underlying currency totals. Etsy Ads spend itself is reported separately on the fee and economics cards; this card is about where the revenue came from, not what the ads cost.

## Worked example

*Illustrative numbers.* In the 30 days to 14 Jun 26 a handmade jewellery shop books GBP 9,400 in revenue. The card splits it 38% Etsy Ads (GBP 3,572) and 62% organic (GBP 5,828). The prior 30 days were 26% Ads. The Ads slice has grown 12 points while total revenue is roughly flat, which usually means listings that used to rank organically have slipped down search and the shop is now paying to recover those same impressions. The owner uses this as a prompt to check the listing SEO cards, refresh tags and titles on the top earners, and only then decide whether the Ads budget is still earning its place. To trace which listings drove the shift, open Vortex Mind; to ask "which products moved from organic to paid this month" in plain English, ask Ask Viq.

## Sibling cards merchants should reference together

| Card | Why merchants reach for it |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| [`ets_total_revenue`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/total-revenue) | The total this split divides. Read the share against the absolute figure. |
| [`ets_net_revenue`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/net-revenue-after-etsy-fees-refunds) | Strips Etsy Ads spend and fees so you see the true paid-traffic margin. |
| [`ets_seo_title_health`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/listings-with-seo-weak-titles) | Weak titles push you toward paid; fixing them grows the organic slice. |
| [`ets_views_to_favourites_rate`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/views-favourites-conversion) | Low soft-conversion explains why paid clicks are not converting cheaply. |
| [`ets_fee_pct`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/fees-as-of-revenue) | Ads spend lands here; rising Ads share usually lifts fee load. |

## Reconciling against Etsy Shop Manager

**Where to look in Etsy Shop Manager:**

Open Shop Manager, then Marketing, then Etsy Ads to see ad-attributed revenue and spend. Compare organic by reading total Stats revenue under Shop Manager, then Stats, and subtracting the Ads-attributed figure. Etsy Ads reporting and the Stats page can use different attribution windows, so expect small differences.

**Why the Vortex IQ value may legitimately differ:**

| Reason | Direction | What to do |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Attribution window.** Etsy Ads credits a sale within its own click-attribution window; Vortex IQ aligns to the order date in the 30-day view. | Variable | Compare the same date range and note Etsy's attribution lag. |
| **Time zone.** Etsy reports in your shop time zone; Vortex IQ aligns to the merchant reporting time zone. | Marginal | Confirm both are set to the same zone. |
| **Refunds and cancellations.** A refunded Ads order may still show in Etsy Ads reporting but drop from net revenue here. | Ads share lower in Vortex IQ | Reconcile against the refund and cancellation cards. |

## Known limitations / merchant FAQs

**Q: Does this card include Etsy Ads spend?**
No. It splits revenue by source. Ad spend appears on the fee and net-revenue cards. Read them together to judge whether the Ads slice is profitable.

**Q: A high Ads share, is that bad?**
Not automatically. A new shop or a new product line often leans on Ads while organic ranking builds. It becomes a concern when the Ads share keeps rising while total revenue stays flat, which means you are paying for demand you used to earn.

**Q: Why does my Etsy Ads page show a different revenue figure?**
The most common reasons are Etsy's click-attribution window versus the order-date view used here, time-zone alignment, and refunded orders being treated differently. Match the date range first.

**Q: Can I customise the alert threshold?**
Yes. Sensitivity thresholds are configurable per profile in the Sensitivity tab. Set a paid-share ceiling that fits your shop stage rather than relying on a generic default.
