# Revenue at Risk (live), Etsy

> Revenue at Risk (live) for Etsy stores. Tracked live in Vortex IQ Nerve Centre. How to read it, why it matters, and how to act on it.

**Card class:** [Hero](/nerve-centre/overview#card-classes-explained) • **Category:** [Marketplace](/nerve-centre/connectors#connectors-by-type)

## At a glance

> **Revenue at Risk (live)** puts a single currency figure on the money your Etsy shop could lose in the near term if nothing is done. It blends three exposures: listings about to expire without a renewal, weighted by how fast they sell and what they sell for; listings that have slipped down Etsy search and stopped earning what they used to; and the visibility cost of losing the Star Seller badge. An Etsy seller cares because it turns scattered warning signs into one number a finance owner can act on. Good looks like a figure at or near zero. Bad looks like a rising figure driven by a cluster of best-sellers all hitting their 4-month renewal at once or a sudden drop in search placement.

| | |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **What it counts** | Projected near-term revenue exposure from expiring listings, search-rank losses, and Star Seller visibility risk, combined into one figure. |
| **Sample type** | Backend API data from Etsy, refreshed on the standard data refresh. |
| **Why it matters** | It converts several separate risks into one prioritised currency number so finance and the owner can act before the loss lands. |
| **Reading the value** | A currency amount. Lower is better; zero means no live exposure is detected. |
| **Currency** | Currency (USD or GBP, per shop settings). |
| **Time window** | `RT` |
| **Alert trigger** | `>$0` |
| **Sentiment key** | `ets_revenue_at_risk` |
| **Roles** | owner, finance |

## Calculation

The figure is the sum of three components. The first multiplies listings approaching their renewal date without a renewal in place by their recent sales velocity and average selling price. The second takes listings that have dropped in Etsy search placement and estimates the earnings they have stopped capturing against their prior run rate. The third adds an estimate of the visibility cost if the shop is close to losing, or has lost, the Star Seller badge. Because any one component above zero raises the total, the alert fires the moment exposure appears rather than waiting for a fixed amount.

## Worked example

*Illustrative numbers.* On 14 Jun 26 a jewellery shop sees the card jump to about $640. The breakdown shows roughly $400 from six fast-selling listings due to expire within days at a $0.20 renewal each but not yet set to auto-renew, around $180 from two listings that have slipped off the first page of a popular search, and about \$60 of estimated visibility cost from a slipping on-time dispatch rate. The owner enables auto-renew on the six listings, refreshes the two slipped listings with stronger titles and tags, and clears the dispatch backlog. By the next refresh the figure has fallen back toward zero. They use Vortex Mind to trace which search terms drove the rank drop and Ask Viq to ask, in plain English, which listings contribute most to the current figure.

## Sibling cards merchants should reference together

| Card | Why merchants reach for it |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| [`ets_listings_expiring_soon`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/listings-expiring-soon) | The expiring-listing component of the figure, broken out item by item. |
| [`ets_seo_title_health`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/listings-with-seo-weak-titles) | Weak titles are a common cause of the search-rank loss component. |
| [`ets_star_seller_status`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/star-seller-status) | The badge whose loss drives the visibility-cost component. |
| [`ets_top_listings_by_revenue`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/top-listings-by-revenue) | Tells you which at-risk listings matter most to protect first. |
| [`ets_revenue_trend`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/etsy/revenue-over-time) | Confirms whether projected risk is already showing up in actual revenue. |

## Reconciling against Etsy Shop Manager

**Where to look in Etsy Shop Manager:**

There is no single Shop Manager screen that mirrors this figure, because it is a forward-looking blend. Verify the inputs instead: check renewal dates and auto-renew settings under Shop Manager > Listings, review placement signals in Shop Manager > Stats, and confirm badge standing in the Star Seller dashboard.

**Why the Vortex IQ value may legitimately differ:**

| Reason | Direction | What to do |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **It is a projection, not a booked figure.** The number estimates exposure that has not yet happened. | Variable | Treat it as a prioritised to-do list, not a ledger entry. |
| **Velocity is recent-trend based.** Sales speed used in the estimate reflects a recent window, which can over- or under-state a seasonal item. | Variable | Sense-check fast-moving seasonal listings against your own forecast. |
| **Badge visibility cost is an estimate.** Etsy does not publish an exact visibility figure for the badge. | Marginal | Use the component as a directional signal, not a precise loss. |

**Cross-connector reconciliation:** If the same products sell on other channels, use Vortex Mind to see whether an Etsy search-rank loss coincides with shifts elsewhere that share a root cause.

## Known limitations / merchant FAQs

**Q: Why is the figure above zero when my sales look fine today?**
Because it is forward-looking. It flags exposure that has not yet hit your revenue, such as best-sellers due to expire or listings that have just slipped in search. Acting now is exactly how you keep the loss from landing.

**Q: How do I bring the number down fastest?**
Start with the largest component. Enabling auto-renew on expiring best-sellers and fixing the highest-earning slipped listings usually clears the bulk of the figure quickly.

**Q: Why does my Etsy Shop Manager show a different number?**
Shop Manager reports actuals, not projections, so there is no direct equivalent screen. Differences also come from period boundaries, time zone alignment, and the recent-window scope used for velocity. Reconcile by checking the underlying inputs rather than looking for a matching total.

**Q: Can I customise the alert threshold?**
Yes. Sensitivity thresholds are configurable per profile in the Sensitivity tab. Because the default trigger is any exposure above zero, sellers who want to ignore small amounts can set a minimum currency floor before the card alerts.
