# CTR by Position Bucket, Google Search Console

> CTR by Position Bucket charts how your organic click-through rate behaves across average-position bands so you can benchmark each page against the click curve it should be earning. How to read it, why it matters, and how to act on it.

**Card class:** [Non-Hero](/nerve-centre/overview#card-classes-explained) • **Category:** [CTR Optimisation](/nerve-centre/connectors#connectors-by-type)

## At a glance

> **CTR by Position Bucket** groups your Search Console impressions into average-position bands (for example 1, 2 to 3, 4 to 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 20, 21+) and plots the blended click-through rate for each band. It rebuilds the familiar organic "click curve" from your own data, so you can see whether a position-3 page is earning a position-3 CTR or quietly under-performing the band it sits in.

## What it tracks

The card pulls `clicks`, `impressions` and `position` from the Google Search Console Search Analytics API, assigns every page-or-query row to a position bucket by its average position, then computes `clicks ÷ impressions` for each bucket. The result is your site's empirical click curve: clicks fall away steeply as average position drops, so position 1 typically earns multiples of the CTR seen at positions 6 to 10. The diagnostic value is the gap between a bucket's CTR on your site and the CTR you would expect for that band. A bucket sitting well below its expected curve points to weak snippets, SERP features (such as rich results, ads or People Also Ask) pushing your blue links down the fold, or intent mismatch. Use this card as the benchmark layer behind [CTR by Page](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/google-search-console/ctr-by-page) and the [CTR Opportunity Queries](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/google-search-console/ctr-opportunity-queries) list, and read it next to [Average Position](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/google-search-console/average-position) so you know which band each page belongs to.

## Reconciling against the source

Search Console has no native position-bucket view, so the closest reconcile is to export the Performance report (Queries or Pages tab) with Position and CTR enabled, then bucket by position yourself in a spreadsheet. Match property, Web search type and date range. Bear in mind average position is itself an impression-weighted average, Search Console data lags 2 to 3 days, rare queries are anonymised, and both UI and per-query export cap at 1,000 rows.
