# Position by Country, bar

> Average organic-search position broken down by country from Google Search Console. How to read it, why it matters, and how to act on it.

## At a glance

> **Position by Country** plots your average organic-search position for each country that sends you Search Console impressions. A lower number is better (position 1 is the top of the results page), so shorter bars mean stronger rankings in that market. Use it to see where your site already ranks well and where you have room to climb.

## What it tracks

This card reads the **country** dimension from the Google Search Console Search Analytics API and reports the **average position** metric per country, rendered as a bar chart. Average position is the mean ranking of your pages across every impression Search Console recorded for that country, weighted by impression. A country where you sit at position 3.2 is outranking a country where you sit at 14.7, even if the higher-position market drives fewer total clicks.

Read it alongside impression and click volume per market: a strong average position (low number) in a low-traffic country is a different story to a weak position in your biggest market. Countries are reported using ISO three-letter codes in the underlying API, surfaced here as readable country names. Because position is impression-weighted, a handful of high-volume queries can pull a country's average up or down, so treat large bars as a prompt to drill into the queries and pages driving that market.

## Reconciling against the source

Open **Search Console, Performance, Search results** and add the **Country** dimension with the **Average position** metric ticked. Search Console data is typically 2 to 3 days delayed, anonymises rare queries, and the UI caps at 1,000 rows, so very small markets may differ slightly from the API-driven figure shown here.
