# First-Attempt Delivery Rate, Shippo

> First-Attempt Delivery Rate for Shippo stores. Tracked live in Vortex IQ Nerve Centre. How to read it, why it matters, and how to act on it.

**Metrics type:** [Supporting Metrics](/nerve-centre/overview#metrics-types-explained) • **Category:** [Delivery Performance](/nerve-centre/connectors#connectors-by-type)

## At a glance

> Share of Shippo-booked parcels that were delivered on the carrier's first delivery attempt, with no "attempted, no answer" or "carded for redelivery" event in the tracking history. A high first-attempt rate keeps reverse-logistics cost down and customers happy; a falling rate signals address-quality problems or carrier last-mile strain across the carriers Shippo aggregates.

## What it tracks

This card reads **First-Attempt Delivery Rate for the selected period** over a rolling `30D` window. The denominator is every Shippo shipment that reached a terminal `DELIVERED` tracking status in the period; the numerator is the subset whose tracking history shows no failed-attempt event before the delivered scan. Shippo normalises carrier scans into a common tracking model, so a failed attempt typically surfaces as a `TRANSIT` status with a sub-status such as `delivery_attempted`, `notice_left`, or `package_held`. Because Shippo is a multi-carrier aggregator, this rate blends the underlying carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Canada Post, Australia Post and others) into one figure, so a dip is usually concentrated on one carrier or lane rather than network-wide. Use [OTD by Route](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/shippo/otd-by-route) and [Shipments by Underlying Carrier](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/shippo/shipments-by-underlying-carrier) to localise the cause, and pair with [Failed Deliveries](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/shippo/failed-deliveries) and [Returned to Sender](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/shippo/returned-to-sender) for the downstream cost view. The alert fires when the rate falls below **85%**, the point at which redelivery handling and "returned to sender" charges start to erode despatch margin. The most common controllable driver is address quality, so a sustained dip is worth checking against address-validation pass rates at label time.

## Reconciling against the source

Compare against the Shippo dashboard **Shipments** view filtered to delivered parcels, and for ground truth against each underlying carrier's own tracking portal, since the first-attempt event is recorded by the carrier scan rather than by Shippo. Tracking-event ingestion can lag the carrier by 30 minutes to several hours and scan timestamps are in carrier-local time, so a reading near a period boundary can differ from the carrier portal by a parcel or two.
