# Cancellation Rate, Walmart Marketplace

> Cancellation Rate for Walmart Marketplace stores. Tracked live in Vortex IQ Nerve Centre. How to read it, why it matters, and how to act on it.

**Card class:** [Non-Hero](/nerve-centre/overview#card-classes-explained) • **Category:** [Marketplace](/nerve-centre/connectors#connectors-by-type)

## At a glance

> This card tracks the share of Walmart orders that were cancelled before fulfilment over the selected period. It is one of the three account-health KPIs Walmart polices, and seller-initiated cancellations count against you. Sellers watch it because crossing Walmart's cancellation threshold puts Pro Seller status and search visibility at direct risk.

| | |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **What it counts** | The percentage of Walmart orders cancelled before fulfilment in the selected period. |
| **Sample type** | Backend API data from Walmart Marketplace, refreshed on the standard data refresh. |
| **Why it matters** | Cancellation rate is a Walmart account-health KPI; breaching the threshold threatens Pro Seller status and search placement. |
| **Reading the value** | Lower is better; a reading above the alert threshold means cancellations are at a level Walmart penalises. |
| **Currency** | percent |
| **Time window** | `30D vsP` |
| **Alert trigger** | `>2% (Walmart threshold)` |
| **Sentiment key** | `wal_cancellation_rate` |
| **Roles** | owner, operations |

## Calculation

Vortex IQ divides cancelled orders by total orders over the selected window and compares the result against the prior period to show direction. The figure is presented as a gauge against Walmart's published cancellation threshold so you can see how much headroom remains. As the At a glance summary notes, seller-initiated cancellations are the ones that hurt; the worked example below shows how a stock-out can push the rate over the line.

## Worked example

*A representative reading of **Cancellation Rate** for a typical merchant on Walmart Marketplace.* Over the 30 days to 12 Mar 26 a seller sees Cancellation Rate rise from a representative 1.1% to 2.4%, above Walmart's threshold and up versus the prior period. Investigating shows most cancellations came from a single SKU that sold past its real stock level after a sync delay. The reading means an inventory accuracy problem is now an account-health risk, so the action is to tighten stock buffers on fast movers and fix the sync gap before the rolling rate stays over the line. For deeper investigation, use Vortex Mind to trace upstream causes; for natural-language exploration, ask Ask Viq.

## Sibling cards merchants should reference together

| Card | Why merchants reach for it |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

| [`wal_alert_account_health_drop`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/walmart-marketplace/walmart-account-health-lqs-sla-cancel-crossed-threshold) | The composite tripwire that fires when this rate breaches. |
| [`wal_listings_oos`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/walmart-marketplace/out-of-stock-listings) | Stock-outs are a leading cause of seller-initiated cancellations. |
| [`wal_return_rate`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/walmart-marketplace/return-rate) | Complements cancellations as a post-purchase satisfaction signal. |
| [`wal_pro_seller_status`](/nerve-centre/kpi-cards/walmart-marketplace/pro-seller-status) | The programme status this rate can revoke when breached. |

## Reconciling against Walmart Seller Center

**Where to look in Walmart Seller Center:**

Verify against the Performance or Scorecard area, where Walmart publishes the cancellation rate that feeds account health, and the Order Management area for the underlying cancelled orders. The scorecard also shows the threshold currently applied.

**Why the Vortex IQ value may legitimately differ:**

| Reason | Direction | What to do |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------- | ------------------------ |
| **Period boundary.** Vortex IQ uses 30D vsP rolling by default; Seller Center may use calendar periods. | Variable | Match the period range. |
| **Time zone.** Seller Center uses the account time zone; Vortex IQ aligns to the merchant reporting time zone. | Marginal | Confirm time zone match. |
| **Filter scope.** Profile-level filters (fulfilment type, test orders) may narrow the Vortex IQ view. | Variable | Match filter settings. |

**Cross-connector reconciliation:** complement with sibling cards in the same category for the full diagnostic picture. For divergence investigations, use Vortex Mind.

## Known limitations / merchant FAQs

**Q: How often does Cancellation Rate update?**
The card refreshes on the standard data refresh (typically every 30-60 minutes for live integrations). For real-time signals, force a manual refresh from the dashboard.

**Q: Why does my Walmart Seller Center show a different number?**
Seller Center applies the cancellation rate over its own scorecard window and may attribute buyer-initiated cancellations differently from Vortex IQ, which uses a rolling period. Time-zone and filter scope (fulfilment type or test orders) can also shift which cancellations are counted.

**Q: Do buyer-requested cancellations count against my rate?**
Walmart treats the metric primarily around seller-initiated cancellations; buyer-requested cancellations made before fulfilment are generally handled differently, so check the scorecard detail if your two figures diverge.

**Q: Can I customise the alert threshold?**
Yes, sensitivity thresholds are configurable per profile in the Sensitivity tab. Adjust to match your business baseline rather than relying on the generic default.
