At a glance

Listings Drifting from BC Source-of-Truth counts the Etsy listings whose title, price, or photo no longer matches the same product in your BigCommerce (BC) catalogue, which is treated as the single source of truth. This is a cross-channel card: BC holds the canonical product record, and Etsy is meant to mirror it. When an Etsy listing drifts, buyers can see a different price or out-of-date image on Etsy than on your main store, which erodes trust and creates fulfilment confusion. Drift on titles is especially costly because Etsy search weights the title heavily, so a stale or off-message Etsy title can quietly sink a product’s ranking even while the BC record is correct. A count near zero is healthy; a rising count means your channels are pulling apart.

Why it mattersDrift confuses buyers across channels and, because Etsy search weights titles heavily, title drift directly hurts ranking.

Calculation

Vortex IQ matches each Etsy listing to its corresponding BigCommerce product by SKU and compares the title, price, and primary photo against the BC source-of-truth values. A SKU is counted as drifting when any of those fields no longer agrees with BC within the configured tolerance. The result is the number of distinct SKUs in a drifted state. Because BC is the canonical record, the BC value is always treated as correct and the Etsy listing is the one flagged for reconciliation.

Worked example

Illustrative numbers. On 14 Jun 26 the card reads 14 drifting SKUs, above the 10-SKU alert. The seller drills in and finds a recent BC price rise from 24to24 to 28 propagated to the main store but not to Etsy, where eight listings still show $24, and four listings still carry last season’s product photo. They push the BC prices and images to Etsy, then rewrite two Etsy titles that had been edited manually and never reconciled. The count falls to 1. To find out which sync step skipped Etsy, the seller opens Vortex Mind to trace the drift back to the channel push, then uses Ask Viq to ask “which Etsy listings still show the old price?” in plain English to confirm nothing was missed.

Reconciling against Etsy Shop Manager

Where to look in Etsy Shop Manager: Open Shop Manager, then Listings, and inspect the title, price, and primary photo on the flagged listings. To confirm the canonical values, open the same SKU in the BigCommerce control panel catalogue (Products) and compare field by field. The BC record is the source of truth, so any Etsy field that disagrees is the one to correct. Why the Vortex IQ value may legitimately differ:
ReasonDirectionWhat to do
Sync lag. A BC edit may not have propagated to Etsy by the last refresh.Vortex IQ higherRe-run the channel sync, then re-check after the next refresh.
Intentional Etsy-only copy. A title deliberately tuned for Etsy search may differ from BC by design.Vortex IQ higherExclude approved Etsy-specific overrides from the drift check in your profile.
SKU match gaps. A listing without a clean SKU link to BC may be miscounted.VariableFix the SKU mapping so the listing pairs to the correct BC product.
Cross-connector reconciliation: Open Vortex Mind to trace a drift spike back to the exact BC edit or failed channel push that caused Etsy and BC to diverge.

Known limitations / merchant FAQs

Q: Why is BigCommerce the source of truth and not Etsy? Your BC catalogue is the canonical product record that feeds all channels. Etsy is a sales surface that mirrors it. When the two disagree, the fix is to bring Etsy back in line with BC, not the other way around. Q: I intentionally use a different title on Etsy for search. Is that always drift? Not if you mark it as an approved override. Etsy search rewards channel-specific titles, so you can exclude sanctioned overrides per profile so they are not counted as drift. Q: Why does my Etsy Shop Manager show a different number? This card compares two systems, so timing matters most. A BC edit may not have synced to Etsy yet, or a recent Etsy fix may not be in the latest refresh. Confirm the SKU in both the BC control panel and Shop Manager, then re-check after the next sync and refresh. Q: Can I customise the alert threshold? Yes. Sensitivity thresholds are configurable per profile in the Sensitivity tab. If you run a large catalogue, raise the 10-SKU trigger; if catalogue accuracy is critical to your brand, lower it so even small drift is flagged early.
