At a glance
Listings with SEO-Weak Titles counts the listings whose titles are working against you in Etsy search. A title is flagged when it is too short to carry meaningful search terms, when it is missing the key words buyers actually type, or when it leans on brand-only or repeated text that Etsy cannot match to real queries. An Etsy seller cares because the title, alongside tags and attributes, is one of the strongest signals Etsy uses to rank a listing, and a weak title quietly suppresses placement and views. Etsy allows up to 140 characters in a title, so there is room to be specific. Good looks like a small flagged count; bad looks like a large share of the catalogue carrying lazy or thin titles that bleed search visibility.
| What it counts | Active listings whose titles are too short, missing key search terms, or dominated by brand-only or repeated text. |
| Sample type | Backend API data from Etsy, refreshed on the standard data refresh. |
| Why it matters | Titles are a primary Etsy search ranking signal; weak ones suppress placement, views, and ultimately sales. |
| Reading the value | A whole number of flagged listings. Lower is better. Read it as a share of your total active catalogue. |
| Currency | Number (count of listings). |

| Alert trigger | >10% of catalogue |

Calculation
Vortex IQ inspects the title of each active listing and flags it when it fails one or more title-quality checks: insufficient length to carry search terms, absence of the relevant key terms a buyer would search, or over-reliance on brand-only or repeated phrasing. The card reports the count of flagged listings and the alert fires when that count passes 10% of your active catalogue, so the trigger scales with shop size rather than a fixed number. Etsy’s 140-character title limit defines the headroom the checks measure against.Worked example
Illustrative numbers. On 14 Jun 26 a stationery shop with 200 active listings sees the card read 34, which is 17% of the catalogue and over the 10% trigger, so the alert fires. Reviewing the flagged set, the marketing owner finds many titles are just the product line name, such as a single brand phrase repeated, with none of the descriptive search terms buyers use. They rewrite the worst offenders to lead with specific, searched terms within the 140-character limit, keeping the brand reference but adding material, occasion, and use. Over the next fortnight views on the rewritten listings recover. They use Vortex Mind to trace which rewritten listings regained search placement, and Ask Viq to ask, in plain English, which flagged titles sit on the highest-earning listings so they fix those first.Sibling cards merchants should reference together
| Card | Why merchants reach for it |
|---|---|
ets_tag_completeness | Titles and tags work together; fix both for a search win. |
ets_required_attribute_completeness | Attributes are the third search signal alongside titles and tags. |
ets_listing_quality_score | Rolls title health into an overall listing-quality view. |
ets_stale_listings | A title rewrite both fixes SEO and refreshes the freshness signal. |
ets_views_favourites_conversion | Confirms whether better titles are turning into more views and sales. |
Reconciling against Etsy Shop Manager
Where to look in Etsy Shop Manager: Open Shop Manager > Listings to review and edit the titles themselves, and Shop Manager > Stats to see the search terms and views each listing is drawing. There is no single Etsy screen that labels a title as weak, so the card is doing the assessment Etsy leaves to you. Why the Vortex IQ value may legitimately differ:| Reason | Direction | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Etsy has no weak-title report. The flag is Vortex IQ’s quality assessment, not an Etsy field. | Variable | Use Shop Manager to act on each flagged listing; expect no matching Etsy count. |
| Judgement on key terms. What counts as a missing key term depends on the niche and current buyer language. | Variable | Sanity-check flags against the search terms shown in Stats. |
| Recent edits. A title fixed in Shop Manager clears on the next refresh, not instantly. | Marginal | Re-check the count after the next data refresh. |
