At a glance

Save Rate (per 1000 views) is the listing-health metric that tells you how many shoppers tapped the heart to save a listing for every 1,000 times that listing was seen. On Depop it is the single clearest read on whether your photos, price and hashtags match what your target buyer is hunting for. A save is the strongest pre-purchase intent signal the platform exposes, and Depop’s discovery surfaces reward listings that earn saves. When the rate slips below roughly 2 saves per 1,000 views, it usually means the first photo or the aesthetic framing is off, not that demand has vanished.
What it countsSaves earned per 1,000 listing views across your active Depop shop for the selected window. A save is a buyer tapping the heart icon to bookmark an item.
Sample typeBackend API data from Depop, refreshed on the standard data refresh.
Why it mattersSave rate is Depop’s primary engagement signal. Listings that earn saves get surfaced more in Explore and search; listings that do not quietly sink. A low save rate is an early warning that conversion will follow it down.
Reading the valueRead it as intent per impression. Above the target band, your framing is landing. Below roughly 2 per 1,000, audit the lead photo, hashtags and price before assuming the item is unwanted.

Calculation

Save Rate is computed as total saves divided by total listing views over the window, then scaled to a per-1,000-views basis. Vortex IQ reads both counts from the Depop integration and normalises them so the figure is comparable across shops of very different traffic sizes. The exact view-attribution model is set by Depop and is described here in general terms rather than as a fixed formula.

Worked example

A representative reading of Save Rate (per 1000 views) for a typical vintage-denim seller on Depop. Over the last 30 days the shop drew about 48,000 listing views and earned 71 saves, giving a save rate of roughly 1.5 per 1,000, under the 2.0 target band. Drilling in with Vortex Mind showed the dip was concentrated on newly listed items shot against a busy background, while older studio-lit listings still cleared 3.0+. The fix was framing, not pricing. After reshooting the lead photo on a plain wall and adding the five most-searched hashtags, the cohort recovered to 2.6 per 1,000 within two weeks and sell-through followed. To explore which listings drag the average down, ask Ask Viq for the lowest-saving listings this month.

Sibling cards merchants should reference together

CardWhy merchants reach for it
dep_photo_count_healthListing Health sibling: low photo counts are a leading cause of weak save rate.
dep_hashtag_healthListing Health sibling: thin hashtags shrink the discovery surface that earns saves.
dep_follower_countReach sibling: followers see your listings first, amplifying early saves.
dep_marketplace_health_scoreComposite sibling: save rate is a core input to the shop health score.
dep_listing_quality_scoreListing Health sibling: overall listing quality correlates with save rate.

Reconciling against Depop

Where to look in Depop’s own dashboard: Depop exposes per-listing saves and views in the listing insights view inside the seller app. Aggregate save rate is not shown as a single shop-wide figure there, so the cleanest reconciliation is to spot-check a handful of high-traffic listings and confirm their saves and views line up with what Vortex IQ aggregates. Why the Vortex IQ value may legitimately differ:
ReasonDirectionWhat to do
Period boundary. Vortex IQ uses a 30-day rolling window; the app shows lifetime listing counts.VariableCompare like-for-like windows where possible.
View de-duplication. Depop may count repeated views differently than the rolling aggregate.MarginalTreat the rate as a trend signal, not an exact count.
Active-listing scope. Sold or removed listings drop out of the Vortex IQ active set but may still appear in lifetime app totals.Lower in Vortex IQConfirm which listings are in scope.
Cross-connector reconciliation: pair save rate with photo and hashtag health to see whether weak engagement is a content problem. For divergence investigations, use Vortex Mind.

Known limitations / merchant FAQs

Q: How often does Save Rate (per 1000 views) update? The card refreshes on the standard data refresh (typically every 30-60 minutes for live integrations). For a real-time read after reshooting photos, force a manual refresh from the dashboard. Q: My save rate is fine but sales are flat. Why? Saves are intent, not purchase. A healthy save rate with weak sell-through usually points downstream: price relative to comparable listings, shipping cost, or items going out of stock before buyers commit. Cross-reference price-parity and stale-listing cards. Q: Why is the target around 2 per 1,000? That band is an illustrative starting point drawn from typical fashion-resale behaviour. Your real baseline depends on category and price point. Set your own threshold in the Sensitivity tab once you have a few weeks of data. Q: Can I customise the alert threshold? Yes, sensitivity thresholds are configurable per profile in the Sensitivity tab. Adjust to match your business baseline rather than relying on the generic default.
