Card class: Non-HeroCategory: CTR Optimisation

At a glance

CTR vs Impressions plots click-through rate against impression volume as a scatter for the selected period, so you can see at a glance which search appearances are getting plenty of exposure but converting few of those impressions into clicks. The top-left quadrant (high impressions, low CTR) is where title and meta-description optimisation pays back fastest. It is a prioritisation lens, not a single headline number.

What it tracks

The card reads CTR vs Impressions for the selected period straight from the Search Console Search Analytics API, one point per query (or page, depending on the dimension you have selected). The x-axis is impressions (how often your result appeared in the Search results), the y-axis is CTR (clicks divided by impressions). Points sitting far to the right with a low y-value are high-exposure, low-engagement listings: the search demand is already there, but the snippet is not earning the click. Those are the prime candidates for rewriting titles and meta descriptions, adding structured data for rich results, or sharpening intent match. Points high on the y-axis with modest impressions are already efficient and usually need ranking lift rather than snippet work. Because the card spans the whole period rather than a daily slice, a single noisy day will not move a point much, which keeps the prioritisation stable. The card is framed around your website’s organic search presence, so a “good” CTR depends on the average position of each point: top-of-page results naturally earn far higher CTR than results sitting mid page one.

Reconciling against the source

Cross-check any point against Search Console, Performance, Search results, switching on both the Impressions and CTR metrics and grouping by Query or Page. Remember Search Console data is typically 2 to 3 days delayed, rare queries are anonymised (so per-query impressions can under-count slightly), and the UI caps at 1,000 rows, so the long tail you see in the scatter may extend past what the native table shows. For a full row-level export, use the Search Analytics API.
